With a new year comes fresh inspiration, and we’re all looking forward to shaking things up in 2021. At INIKA Organic, we’ve been keeping an eye on the beauty trends that are gaining momentum, and we’re so excited to see the industry moving towards natural makeup, clean beauty and sustainability.
From the runway to real life, here are the 9 major trends to watch out for in 2021 — and how to adopt them.
The top makeup trends in 2021
#1 The dewy, fresh-faced glow isn’t going anywhere
Barely-there makeup has been trending for a few years now, and it’s set to stick around. During this year’s New York and London Fashion Week, designers like Victoria Beckham to Marc Jacobs sent models down the runway wearing hardly a stitch of makeup. The dewy look let models’ skin shine through and showcased their natural features.
The best thing? This no-makeup makeup look is an easy one to emulate.
First up, say goodbye to cakey, contoured makeup and strobing highlighters. Instead, focus on creating a healthy, hydrated canvas for makeup application by taking care of your skin. Flawless, radiant and natural makeup starts with a good skincare routine.
When you’re ready to apply dewy makeup, prep your skin with the Radiant Glow Veil. This lightweight priming veil smooths the skin and blurs imperfections leaving skin with a dewy, satin-like finish. It also doubles as an illuminator, so you can dab a little on your browbones, cheekbones and cupid’s bow at the end.
#2 The Twiggy lash is back in all her ‘60s glory
Back in the 60s, British model Lesley Lawson (aka Twiggy) was a style icon known for two things: her pixie cut and her signature spidery lashes. They accentuated her gorgeous eyes and started a worldwide trend.
The Twiggy lash is all about length on both the top and bottom lashes. After curling your lashes, reach for the Long Lash Vegan Mascara and zig-zag the brush to evenly coat and separate each lash. To get the retro-inspired look, repeat that a few times. The lower lash mascara works to lengthen the lashes for a “falsie” effect, without clumping or smudging.
#3 Rosy cheeks and lids are the key to a youthful look
We may be spending more time inside, but a hint of rosy pink colour is a quick and easy way to liven up the complexion. A wash of neutral pink makeup on the cheeks and eyes can go a long way in making your skin look brighter and more youthful.
The new Lip & Cheek Cream is a must-have for any beauty bag. This lipstick, blush and eyeshadow multi-tasker, is infused with Sweet Almond Oil and Vitamin E, to hydrate and protect the skin. It’s also available in three beautiful colours for you to choose from, and they all have buildable coverage.
#4 We’ll keep experimenting with escapist makeup
Think hot pink lips and eyeshadow in every colour of the rainbow. As showcased by Tom Ford this year, vivid colours are in and it’s all making sense. After a year of being cooped up, we’re excited to glam up and “escape” with the help of makeup.
To nail this look, draw attention to one feature and go bold!
If you want to highlight your eyes, the Vegan Mineral Eyeshadow has you covered. There are 18 richly pigmented shades to experiment with, and glide on smoothly to deliver colour that lasts. The loose mineral shadows contain natural, gentle ingredients like Zinc Oxide and Mica, so they’re suitable for even the most sensitive skin.
In the mood to wear lipstick? Rock a bold lip with the Certified Organic Vegan Lipstick. They’re deeply nourishing and creamy thanks to Shea Butter and available in a range of bright lipstick shades like pink, purple, red and coral.
#5 We’ll use masks that put our makeup on show
Wearing a mask in public to protect ourselves and others has become the new normal, but it doesn’t mean you have to compromise on your makeup looks.
In Bora Aksu’s recent fashion show, models donned transparent face masks that revealed their lipstick underneath. We predict this will start to trend as designers find ways to make masks fashion statements.
Masks can cause clogged pores and breakouts, but there are ways to combat maskne. Along with committing to a daily skincare routine to manage bacteria, you should clean your mask regularly. Aim to wash your masks with warm water and a gentle detergent after 1-2 uses.

#6 Consumers will look for clean ingredients
Health and wellness has been top of mind during 2020, and consumers care about what they’re putting in and on their bodies more than ever.
Natural skincare is trending, and consumers are no longer ignoring ingredients lists. Instead, they’re examining skincare ingredients closely, and choosing products that are free from chemicals and nasties.
At INIKA, we have the strictest beauty ingredient philosophy of any brand in the world. Our clinically proven skincare line contains 100% clean and natural ingredients, including potent botanical extracts and minerals. We source sustainable, renewable resources, and have earned the COSMOS Certified Natural label because of that. Most of our products are certified organic and vegan, too.
You won’t find any toxic ingredients in our skincare, such as petrochemicals, talc, parabens or fillers.
#7 Bespoke skincare is on the rise
Consumers are becoming savvier about skincare, and looking for personalised skincare solutions. Brands are responding to that demand by building complete ranges for each skin type.
That way, customers can create a skincare routine filled with products that address specific concerns, such as dryness, dullness, congestion and ageing skin. To learn more about how to tailor your skincare routine to your skin type, check out our guide to understanding different skin types blog.
#8 Protective products are becoming more popular
External aggressors such as UV rays, blue light and pollution have a huge impact on our skin. With that in mind, skincare brands are formulating products that protect the skin against those stressors.
Enter: the Phyto-active Botanical Face Oil. Made up of 14 plant-based oils, it deeply moisturises and nourishes while strengthening the skin’s barrier. Bursting with Evening Primrose Oil, it locks in moisture to shield the skin and provide UV protection.

#9 Inclusion is a must
The inclusive beauty movement is in full swing, and it’s a truly beautiful thing. It has expanded product offerings to cater to more skin tones and hair types, as well as gender-fluid customers.
We can only see this kind of inclusivity in the beauty industry growing as customers demand brands to shed stereotypes and be truly inclusive.
#10 Brands will embrace sustainable business practices
Across all industries, consumers are trying to find ways to reduce their footprint on the planet. As a part of that, they’re holding beauty brands to high sustainability standards, and asking questions about their packaging and how they source ingredients.
We take sustainable packaging seriously at INIKA, along with our ingredient ethos. All of our sustainable beauty products come in sugarcane tubes, an eco-friendly material made from — you guessed it — sugarcane. It’s a 100% renewable resource that works to lower carbon offsets. Plus, it’s biodegradable and recyclable.
