If you asked us to list some of the best things that have happened over the last decade, we would without a doubt mention the rise in popularity of the vegan lifestyle. Ever since INIKA was created, protecting our Earth has been a core principle of ours, which is why our products have always been Certified Vegan and Cruelty-Free.
Why? Because we believe that sustainable beauty is a win-win scenario: we look after the planet while nourishing our skin with high-quality, natural ingredients. In addition to being vegan and cruelty-free, our products are also Certified Organic worldwide, and use ingredients that are ethically sourced. In fact, we have the highest level of Natural and Organic certifications than any other beauty brand out there.
But what’s the difference between vegan and cruelty-free beauty? We know that these terms may be confusing, so let us dive into what these certifications really mean.
What is cruelty-free makeup?
Cruelty-free cosmetics are produced with the welfare of animals as a key goal. If a product is cruelty-free, the product will not have been created by harming or killing any animals. As such, no animal testing will have been used during the creation or production of the makeup or beauty product. The distinction between creation and production is important. It ensures brands can not claim that they are cruelty-free even though they do use animal testing as part of the production process. This also carries over to third parties.
So, how to check if a product is Certified Cruelty-Free? More than 1,000 cruelty-free makeup brands are certified under Leaping Bunny, including all INIKA products. Leaping Bunny is often considered to be the gold standard for cruelty-free products. It is the only international program that checks whether the brand is conducting or taking part in animal testing. All brands that achieve this certification accept ongoing independent audits to maintain compliance.
What is vegan beauty?
If a beauty product is Vegan Certified, it won’t use any animal products or animal by-products to create or produce it. Indeed, the philosophy of veganism rejects the status of animals as a commodity that is to be used or consumed in different products including food. A by-product can be either an animal ingredient or an animal-derived ingredient. As such, vegan products such as lipstick will not include beeswax since this is derived from bees.
So what’s the difference between vegan and cruelty-free makeup? It’s important to note that a product with a vegan certification could still be tested on animals. Due to this, a vegan product may not be cruelty-free. Our products are both 100% Certified Cruelty-Free and 100% Certified Vegan.
Our Vegan & Cruelty-Free beauty products
At INIKA, we guarantee that our products have both the Cruelty-Free and Vegan certification, and do not harm either animals or their habitats. We are also committed to ensuring that our products are suitable for a vegan lifestyle. As such, all of our organic cruelty-free makeup also has the vegan certification. As well as ensuring that our products are not tested on any type of animals, these products do not contain any animal-derived substances.
We abide by some of the most stringent accreditation in the world today. As such, our ingredients have not been tested on any animals in the last five years and we do not sell to countries that demand animal testing for a sale. We strive to only sell sustainable and ethical cosmetics.
Are you ready to transition to a vegan lifestyle?
It’s easier than most people think to live a vegan lifestyle. But first, what is a vegan lifestyle? Those who follow a vegan lifestyle do not consume any products (whether that’s food, cosmetics, or even clothes) that have been produced with animal products.
To start shifting towards a more vegan-conscious lifestyle, you can start by purchasing from vegan and cruelty-free brands that are now widely available in the market. You can then work to reduce your carbon footprint and eliminate the impact your lifestyle has on the habitats of animals around the world.
